Gateway to Eagle Mountain Lake

For Sale in Azle, TX

Welcome to Azle, a lakeside Tarrant and Parker County city west of Fort Worth known as the Gateway to Eagle Mountain Lake.

Azle is a city in north-central Texas, located in the northwest corner of Tarrant County and extending into Parker County, about 17 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth on State Highway 199. Its population was 13,369 at the 2020 census, and the city covers roughly 8.8 square miles. Azle has grown from a modest farm-and-ranch settlement into a lakeside residential community on the edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The city's origins date to the 1880s, when it was founded and named for Dr. Azle Stewart, a pioneer physician who donated land for the original townsite. For much of its early history, Azle was an agricultural community, but after the 1930s, farming gradually declined as fields were converted to housing and the area's residential character took hold. Its position between two lakes and along a direct route into Fort Worth has driven its steady growth ever since. Azle is best known as the Gateway to Eagle Mountain Lake, a large reservoir that forms the city's eastern edge. The lake supports boating, fishing, and lakeside recreation, with facilities such as West Bay Marina serving residents and visitors. Lake Worth lies just to the south, giving the Azle area access to a second major reservoir. This double-lake geography is unusual in the Fort Worth region and defines much of the community's recreational identity. The Azle Independent School District anchors the area, covering about 95 square miles across parts of Tarrant, Parker, and Wise counties and serving Azle along with Lakeside, Pelican Bay, Reno, and Sanctuary. Azle appeals to families, first-time buyers, and lake enthusiasts seeking a small-town feel, water access, and a practical commute into Fort Worth at a value-oriented price point within the growing DFW region.
