Santa Clarita's Largest Community

Apartments in Canyon Country, CA

Welcome to Canyon Country, the largest community in Santa Clarita, set along the Santa Clara River in Soledad and Mint canyons beneath the San Gabriel Mountains.

Canyon Country is a neighborhood occupying the central and eastern portions of the city of Santa Clarita, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California. With roughly 60,000 residents, it is the largest of Santa Clarita's four communities — the others being Newhall, Valencia, and Saugus — and stretches along the Santa Clara River through the Soledad and Mint Canyon areas, between the Sierra Pelona Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains. The area's history runs deep. The Tataviam people lived in the region long before Spanish and later American settlement, and Canyon Country's development through the mid-1800s and into the 20th century was shaped by ranching, mining, and the railroad and highway corridors that followed the canyons. Many of its neighborhoods take their names from the canyons, ranches, and natural landmarks of the surrounding landscape, and the community has the most distinct neighborhoods of any Santa Clarita borough. Canyon Country is a largely residential community with a varied housing stock. It ranges from older, established neighborhoods such as Whites Canyon — the community's oldest — to newer subdivisions and hillside developments. Sand Canyon and the east side edge toward more rural, larger-lot properties, while the central corridors along Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway hold retail, services, and older tracts. The community's position along State Route 14 makes it the gateway from Santa Clarita toward the Antelope Valley. Schools are split among several districts, reflecting the community's size. Most of Canyon Country is served by the Sulphur Springs Union School District for elementary grades, with the Saugus Union School District covering the western portion, and all students feeding into the William S. Hart Union High School District, which operates Canyon High School and Sierra Vista Junior High School. Recreation is tied to the canyons and mountains. Canyon Country Park offers sports fields, a pool, skate park, and playgrounds, while the Santa Clara River trails, the nearby Angeles National Forest, and iconic Vasquez Rocks Natural Area provide hiking, climbing, and scenic open space. Commuters use State Route 14 and Metrolink's Antelope Valley Line, with City of Santa Clarita Transit providing local and commuter bus service toward Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.
