Edgecliff Village is a small incorporated town in southeastern Tarrant County, Texas, completely surrounded by the city of Fort Worth. As an enclave, it pairs its own small-town municipal government with direct access to one of the largest cities in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The community sits roughly ten miles south of downtown Fort Worth, with Interstate 20, Interstate 35W, and Loop 820 all within easy reach. For much of its early history the area remained sparsely populated. Growth began in the mid-20th century, boosted by activity at nearby Carswell Air Force Base on Fort Worth's west side. The population reached about 500 by the 1950s and exceeded 3,000 by the late 1980s, before settling near 2,000 to 2,600 in more recent counts. The town's largest business is the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which operates a printing plant within city limits. Because it is entirely surrounded by a much larger city, Edgecliff Village occupies an unusual position: residents enjoy the autonomy of an independent municipality while depending on Fort Worth for many everyday services. The town has historically kept a relatively small set of public amenities of its own, and its character is decidedly residential, with few commercial corridors within its borders.
