Enchanted Oaks is a small incorporated town in the northwestern corner of Henderson County, Texas, set on the eastern shore of Cedar Creek Reservoir about 15 miles northwest of Athens, the county seat. The town's entire identity is wrapped up in the lake. Cedar Creek Reservoir, one of the largest lakes in North Texas, was constructed in the mid-twentieth century and became the centerpiece of a broad recreational region, and Enchanted Oaks grew directly out of that waterfront development. The community was incorporated in 1974 as a residential lake town, formalizing what had been a growing lakeside settlement.
