Railroad Town in Western Denton County

Townhouses & Duplexes in Krum, TX

Welcome to Krum, a former railroad townsite in western Denton County that keeps its rural character within easy reach of Denton, Dallas, and Fort Worth.

Krum is a small city in the western part of Denton County, in North Texas, set amid gently rolling prairie about seven miles northwest of Denton. It lies roughly 47 miles northwest of Dallas and 42 miles northeast of Fort Worth, a location that places it within commuting range of the Metroplex while keeping a distinctly rural, small-town identity. The community traces its beginnings to the mid-1880s, when the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway extended a line through western Denton County. The railroad bought 200 acres, platted a townsite, and named it for Charles K. Krum, a railroad official. From the start, Krum grew as a railroad and farming town, serving the surrounding agricultural countryside. A depot handled the loading and unloading of freight, and the community slowly accumulated the institutions of a settled town — churches, schools, and businesses. Krum became an independent school district in 1903, a marker of its civic maturity. Today Krum is best understood as a rural-feeling community whose growth has been driven by its proximity to Denton and the wider Dallas-Fort Worth region. Residents tend to own their homes, and the population skews toward families and young professionals who value open space and a quieter pace while working or studying in nearby cities. The town's character remains grounded: single-family homes, acreage, and a school system that anchors community life. That balance — country living within reach of a major metropolitan area — defines Krum's appeal. It is a place for people who want a slower tempo, larger lots, and a small-school environment without giving up access to the employment, education, and cultural resources of Denton, Dallas, and Fort Worth.
