Hillside Silicon Valley Town
Condos & Apartments in Los Altos Hills, CA
Welcome to Los Altos Hills, the Silicon Valley town of one-acre lots, open-space preserves, and winding pathways set in the foothills west of the Bay.
Los Altos Hills occupies the rolling foothills at the western edge of Silicon Valley, in Santa Clara County between Los Altos and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Incorporated in 1956, the town was established deliberately to preserve a rural, low-density character amid the rapid suburbanization of the Peninsula. That founding intent endures: the town enforces a one-acre minimum lot size, prohibits commercial zoning, and keeps streets free of sidewalks and streetlights, all of which sustain the open, wooded landscape that defines the community. With a population of roughly 8,500 spread across about nine square miles, Los Altos Hills is one of the region's most spacious residential communities. Its homes are set on large, often heavily landscaped parcels, and the town has long been associated with some of the most sought-after residential real estate in the Bay Area. Rather than a conventional street grid, the town maintains a system of pathways and scenic roadways that wind between properties and connect to open space. Open-space preservation is central to the town's identity. Rancho San Antonio County Park and other preserves lie at its edges, offering extensive trails, and the town's own pathway network encourages walking and horseback riding. Foothill College, founded in 1957 and part of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, brings a community college campus and cultural programming to the town. Los Altos Hills operates as a contract city, receiving police and fire services from Santa Clara County, and its residents draw on nearby Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Mountain View for shopping, dining, and employment in the tech economy. The result is a quiet, semi-rural enclave minutes from the heart of Silicon Valley.
