Rural Collin County Community

Apartments in Lowry Crossing, TX

Welcome to Lowry Crossing, a quiet Collin County community on the rural edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, minutes from McKinney, Princeton and Lake Lavon.

Lowry Crossing is a small city in Collin County, Texas, situated along the U.S. Highway 380 corridor between McKinney and Greenville and near the eastern shore of Lake Lavon. It lies within one of the nation's most active growth corridors, yet it has held onto a distinctly rural-suburban character built around larger lots, acreage and open land. The community's history reaches back to a rural school known as Milligan School, which stood south of present-day U.S. 380 and closed in the mid-1940s. In 1971, area residents moved to incorporate, concerned that the encroaching boundaries of nearby McKinney and Princeton would otherwise absorb the community. That decision preserved Lowry Crossing as its own small municipality, and its identity has remained tied to country living at the edge of the metroplex. Lowry Crossing counted 1,689 residents in the 2020 census, with a median age in the mid-40s and a household mix weighted toward married couples and families. Public-school students attend either McKinney Independent School District or Princeton Independent School District depending on their address. The city's commercial strip along U.S. 380 serves through-traffic between McKinney and Greenville, while day-to-day employment, shopping and services are found in McKinney, Princeton and the broader Collin County area. Lake Lavon, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir, provides nearby boating and fishing, and Dallas lies roughly 40 miles to the southwest. Because the city was incorporated specifically to protect its rural identity, development has stayed intentionally low-density, and the community continues to define itself as a place where residents trade subdivision density for room to spread out. For residents, Lowry Crossing offers a quieter, more spacious alternative to the surrounding suburbs without sacrificing proximity to them.
