Lake Gateway on I-45

Apartments in Richland, TX

Welcome to Richland, a small Navarro County town at I-45 and the edge of Richland-Chambers Lake, between Dallas and Corsicana.

Richland is a small town in Navarro County, Texas, on Pisgah Ridge at the junction of Interstate 45 and State Highway 14, about 12 miles south of Corsicana and 60 miles south of Dallas. The 2020 census counted 255 residents, giving the town a quiet, close-knit scale. Settled in the late 1840s, Richland grew as a farm and crossroads community, and its identity has long been tied to the surrounding Blackland Prairie and, more recently, to the reservoir that bears its name. The defining feature of the modern town is Richland-Chambers Lake, a reservoir formed by the impoundment of Richland Creek and Chambers Creek east-southeast of Corsicana. Built by the Tarrant Regional Water District and completed in 1987, the lake is the third-largest inland reservoir in Texas by surface area, with roughly 330 miles of shoreline and a Y-shaped basin that stretches across Navarro and Freestone counties. For Richland, it provides fishing, boating, and lakefront recreation within minutes of town, and it draws anglers and boaters from across North Texas. Life in Richland is rural and unhurried. Most residents own their homes, and the community's position directly on I-45 makes it unusually well-connected for its size: Dallas is about an hour north, and Corsicana, the county seat with shopping, medical care, and employment, is a short drive away. Students attend Corsicana Independent School District, which serves Richland and the other small towns of central Navarro County. For buyers, Richland offers a small-town setting with quick interstate access and a major lake at its doorstep — a combination of country living and convenience that defines the town's appeal. It is a place where rural Navarro County meets the interstate and the water.
