Seven Points is a city in Henderson and Kaufman counties, Texas, on the western shore of Cedar Creek Lake, one of the largest lakes in northeast Texas. With a population of about 1,370, it is a small lakeside community in the Cedar Creek Lake area, roughly an hour southeast of Dallas. The city's name is purely descriptive: it sits at the intersection where seven roads converge. Seven Points did not exist until the nearby Cedar Creek Reservoir was created, and the town was incorporated in the 1970s as the reservoir transformed the surrounding countryside into a recreation and weekend-home destination. Its growth has been tied to the lake ever since. Cedar Creek Lake is the center of local life. The reservoir draws boaters, anglers, and weekenders from across the Dallas–Fort Worth region, and Seven Points sits among a string of small incorporated towns—Kemp, Mabank, Gun Barrel City, Tool, and others—that ring the shoreline. Within Seven Points, marinas, boat launches, and lakeside businesses form the local economy, and Tom Finley Park provides public waterfront access along with the Cedar Creek Library. The city functions as a compact lakeside community rather than a traditional downtown town. Its homes include a mix of waterfront properties, lake-area subdivisions, and the manufactured and mobile homes common to Texas lake communities, arranged along the roads that radiate from its namesake intersection. Most residents are served by Kemp Independent School District, with portions of the city falling within Mabank Independent School District. For residents, Seven Points offers direct access to Cedar Creek Lake and a relaxed, recreation-oriented pace. The surrounding lake towns supply groceries, schools, and services, while the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex remains within easy reach by highway, making Seven Points both a year-round home and a weekend retreat for the region.
