Nemo is a small unincorporated community in the eastern part of Somervell County, in North Central Texas. It sits at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 199 and 200, in rolling, wooded countryside a short drive from Glen Rose, the county seat, and from the Brazos River and the Paluxy River. The community dates to the nineteenth century, when it grew as a modest farming settlement serving the surrounding countryside. In its early years Nemo had a school, two churches, three businesses, and a cotton gin — the classic fixtures of a rural Texas crossroads. Its population remained tiny, hovering around thirty-five to fifty-six residents through most of the twentieth century, and it has stayed an unincorporated, lightly settled place rather than growing into a town. Today Nemo is best understood as part of the Glen Rose orbit. The county seat, about a fifteen-minute drive away, is known as the "Dinosaur Capital of Texas," and Dinosaur Valley State Park preserves genuine Cretaceous-era dinosaur trackways along the Paluxy River, drawing visitors from across the region. The Brazos River Charter School operates a campus in Nemo, and Glen Rose Independent School District serves the community, with its single high school in Glen Rose. The surrounding Somervell County landscape of cedar and oak hills, ranchland, and river bottoms gives Nemo a distinctly rural character.
