Nice is a census-designated place in Lake County, California, on the north shore of Clear Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake entirely within California. Its population was 2,929 at the 2020 census. The community sits about 4.5 miles southeast of Upper Lake, at an elevation of roughly 1,360 feet, and was formerly known as Clear Lake Villas before taking its present name. Nice is one of a string of small, unincorporated lakeside communities that line Clear Lake's northern shore, a rural region framed by the Mendocino National Forest to the north and Mount Konocti to the south. The lake—roughly 68 square miles of water—is the centerpiece of local life, supporting fishing, boating, and waterfowl, and the area's economy has long been tied to recreation, agriculture, and the small businesses serving lake visitors.
