Vista is a city in San Diego County, California, situated in the North County region between Oceanside and Escondido, roughly seven miles inland from the Pacific coast. With a population approaching 100,000, it is one of the larger municipalities in the county and serves as a residential and commercial hub for the surrounding inland valleys. The city's history is rooted in agriculture. For much of the twentieth century, Vista was a farming community, with strawberry production among its defining crops. The city's economy and community life center on the Vista Unified School District, the city's largest employer, alongside retail, healthcare, and the brewing industry. The downtown Vista Village district offers shopping, dining, and civic gathering space, while the Wave Waterpark provides a family-oriented aquatic attraction. Vista's location along State Route 78 and its station on the Sprinter light-rail line connect it to Oceanside, San Marcos, and Escondido, while Interstate 15 lies a short distance to the east, providing access to San Diego and the wider region.
